Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category during that awards season
- A different innovative game received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
- Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier game development, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
