It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
